Another one of my cameras this week, this time a 35mm Film SLR camera that I inherited from my late grandfather. He was an avid photographer and would always be wielding at least one at most family events, holidays and around the house.

Whilst he did have a small ensemble of digital cameras (My fujifilm that I posted about earlier in the year was also found amongst the stuff left in his house); his main medium was 35mm film. Since I can remember, he always had massive collections of photos he’d taken from since he was a young man, documenting his time in the Royal Airforce, meeting my Grandmother, the childhood of my father and his siblings, and then myself, my sister and my cousins.

Nowadays this camera gets used every now and then; mostly taken on holidays or on days out. 35mm film is nowhere near cheap to purchase and develop, but I do like to keep taking photos using this camera, both because the outcome has a fantastic aesthetic to it, but also because I think it’d be what my grandad would have wanted if I believed in that sort of stuff.

I don’t really know much about cameras, but I know this one was largely considered “fine” in it’s day and whilst it wasn’t top-of-the-line it certainly wouldn’t have been cheap either. I still have some old receipts for services so I know that it was well looked after, and I am hoping to continue that tradition at least.

The camera came with a hot-shoe flash, some filters (that I have no idea how to attach or use) and two lenses; one I believe is a “fixed” lens where there is no zoom, but focus is adjusted manually, and one lens that “telescopes” to zoom and rotates to focus accordingly. It also has a crazy number of different settings and dials and buttons you can mess with; but luckily for me, it also has an “automatic” option that does most of the hard stuff for you!

Anyway, enough rambling, below are some photos I’ve taken with the camera – a selection of Marrakech, Robin Hood’s Bay and Kew Gardens. With any luck, I will likely post some more collections of photos from it in the future!
