Space Marine Dreadnaughts 30/05/26

I have finally gotten around the finishing my second Space Marine Dreadnaught (right) and so here are some nice photos of the two dreadnaughts both together.

The first dreadnaught came with my Leviathan Half-Box that I purchased about 3 years ago when deciding I wanted a Salamanders army (I have since bought the Tyrranid half, so I might as well have just gotten the whole darn box!). It was probably the first “big” Space Marine model I painted and I am really pleased with how it looks. It’s not super “Salamanders-y” although the little flaming sconce and candles on top do look pretty good in my opinion.

My second Dreadnaught was a bit more of an experimentation in using the 3D printer to make some more interesting bases. I love basing (probably my favourite part of the hobby!) and having bases that tell a bit of a story or have a bit of action going on are my favourite. For this base, the “topper” of a ruined imperial building all came as a one; and then I supplemented it with two Chaos Cultists that I got for free from the purple STL hosting site. I believe that the sword for the standing cultist came from an old Cadian Shock Troops sprue that I had lying around as there was a print error or it just snapped off at some point in the process, but other than that, the entire base is 3D printed and I think looks pretty great.

These have both been fully painted for quite a while, the left dreadnaught for about 2 years, and the right one for about 8 months – just waiting for the final dry brushing and base rim painting before being called truly done; so I am glad to now be able to add these to the ever growing collection of fully painted models!
