Imperial Guard Infantry 23/05/26

This big block of infantry is the culmination of my rather productive Christmas painting sessions, and forms the backbone of my proxied Krieg for my Imperial Guard army.

I was a little disappointed when GW revealed that the Krieg were going to get a refresh in 2025. They’re by far my least favourite of the different flavours of Imperial Guard and I just can’t get away with the vaguely German WWI and WWII inspired styling. That being said, it was pretty hard to pass up on new units and new rules for the Guard, so I decided that I was going to kit bash my own Krieg, sticking to the vaguely WWI styling, but using some parts that I personally preferred the aesthetics of.

Using a collection of parts from Wargames Atlantic’s Great War set (the 1914 British Box if I remember correctly) in combination with some excellent resin parts from Victoria Miniatures, I put together these vaguely British inspired regular guardsmen (Green/Brown) and these vaguely French inspired Krieg Engineers/Grenadiers (Blue). The remote mines for the Grenadiers/Engineers are heavily scaled down remote tanks from the purple STL site that we all know and love; and also feature some 3D printed “Trench Style” bases.

Overall I am pretty happy with these models; there are some scale issues (the heads are too big and the bodies/weapons are too small as they’re all different interpretations of 28mm scale) but I think once they’re all painted and based and in a block like this that they look pretty convincing! They also enabled me to field my first 1000 point list of Guard where every model was fully painted, which was a pretty big milestone for me and one that I am hoping to achieve with more points and with my other armies this year!

This is the last of the posts that I am scheduling ahead of time here in January – so I hope you have enjoyed this tour of all of my painted models so far! I will be trying my best to get more hobbying and painting done in the rather generous lead time that I have given myself, so hopefully if we all cross our fingers and toes there will be another post next week!
