Some Space Marine infantry this week with an Infernus Marine squad and a Hellblaster squad.
These models demonstrate the two main schemes that I go for with my Salamanders army – a regular Green/Black scheme and a Badab War inspired Yellow/Black scheme, both with Red weapons because Space Marines should have Red weapons period.
There are some fun little things going on with these models – for the Infernus Marines I experimented with a Green Stuff World copper iridescent paint that I, in hindsight, don’t really like that much; but it does make these stand out on the table decently enough. For the Hellblasters I got my airbrush out and did a little bit of a glow on the plasma which, again, I don’t think I did that great of a job of in hindsight, but the models look pretty good overall so I am happy.
Infernus Marines are the “Everyone has loads of them” models of 10th edition for Space Marines, and I do have another squad that are unpainted (I had a third squad, but they went on eBay!). They’re… fine in game? The pyreblasters (flamethrowers to you and me) are a little underwhelming in game and feel like they’re really only there to kill chaff units or provide the threat of overwatch – I feel if you’re playing someone that has a space marines army or has read the datasheet for them then they’re not really going to be too scared of them.
The Hellblasters on the other hand are pretty good – they’ve got good range and fantastic damage output when you overcharge the plasma (which you should do, all the time, cause you’re not a baby that’s scared of the hazardous role); especially as, if I remember correctly, they have a rule that lets them shoot before dying for that extra hilarious “dying in a blast of plasma” storytelling that I am a sucker for.
Also featured here, 3D printed movement trays. I know they’re ugly and that they’re not optimal for gameplay, but I hate moving around loads of boys and keeping them all in a nice uniform block like this is satisfying. I suck at the game of Warhammer anyway so it makes no difference to me!
