Lehman Russ Tanks 21/03/26

Rather fitting since last week was the Regimental Enginseer; this week is my two Lehman Russ Tanks. These were my first Warhammer purchases ever (alongside my Imperial Guard Combat Patrol) when I first got in to Warhammer at the very very end of 9th edition (I mean, maybe a week before they released 10th…).

As such, these are some of the first vehicles that I ever painted and… they’re alright? I think I did a decent job of some of the battle damage and wear, but there are loads of big flat panels that I certainly would like to have done better on in terms of different textures, colours, transfers and not slopping on Adrax Earthshade like it was required for my models to become real life boys and girls.

Even though I absolutely think I could do better on these today, I generally don’t like to strip the paint on my old models. I think it’s important to see how much you have progressed with the hobby, and you’ll never get those old models that you learnt your craft on back. I watch quite a lot of hobby YouTube, and always hear creators lament the fact that they sold, lost or repainted their early models and can’t see the progress that they have made.

When it comes to using these models, these two demonstrate that I am very much not a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) gamer – these two were built with what I thought looked coolest at the time, and will proxy in for the many many (many) variants of Lehman Russ that there are (although I did correctly build them with Mult-Meltas all around, the only objectively correct option). I basically only play with friends, who all take pretty much the same philosophy to gaming, and so making it clear what they are armed with for that game at the start is usually enough – but obviously your mileage might vary!
