This week are some space marine characters that I painted over time for my Salamanders army. A Chaplain, an Apothecary, Bray’arth Ashmantle (Proxy for a Terminator Heavy Weapon / Captain) and a Phobos Lieutenant
These were all painted in what was probably about a 6 month window in late 2024; when I was still getting to grips with my Salamanders scheme and experimenting with contrast, highlighting and using an airbrush. The bases were also a bit of an experiment with technical “crackle paint” – getting bigger and more visible cracks by applying a layer of PVA glue to the painted base first, letting that dry, and then applying the crackle paint on top.
In game I often use the chaplain with the assault intercessors from last week; giving them a significant extra punch in melee (I use a chaplain on bike similarly!), the apothecary usually goes with the unit that I build my list around; either a 10 stack of intercessors or some hell blasters.
My favourite model, at least to play with, is the Phobos lieutenant. Darting around the board as a lone operative, harassing chaff units and tying up objectives – the rules around stealth and movement really make it a pain for your opponent to deal with!
